WEEK 6: A RICH FANTASY LIFE
This week I read the Hobbit which was very immersive and
painted a beautiful picture in my head with the world development. I think in general
it definitely did reflect many elements of the classic journey of the hero for
me. Bilbo for example was more calm at first in the beginning of the book and
her refused his call to adventure when Gandalf had to force him to go. Gandalf
was essentially the mentor figure. As he goes on his journey Bilbo joins the
dwarves which is like crossing the threshold and overcomes allies and tests
when he encounters goblins and trolls and more along the way.
This is so far pretty similar to the classic elements of a
hero’s journey as it is hitting almost every element that entails to the structure.
He eventually makes his transformation and gains his reward by getting the
goblet and he is seen to mature more from his troubles and hardships he’s faced
during the road to getting there. In the end, he even does have his return when
he comes back to Hobbiton with his new-found knowledge, his growth and his
adventures.
