FILM RESPONSE: PAPRIKA

Iv'e watched Paprika a few times before and watching again was as lovely as I remember it to be. must I say more, Satoshi Kon is a genius no doubt. His influence in the film industry is great and his ability to string shots together by match cuts and odd transitions is definitely something to look out for. That being said the story of Paprika itself is extremely unique and weird. I feel like so much of Paprika is about hiding parts of yourself in your subconscious and not allowing yourself to feel or see who you really are. maybe because you're afraid of looking at the real you or maybe because you don't know who they are yet.

In many situations we know the answers to our problems in our waking lives but are to scared to face them or admit them so we turn to dreams and the subconscious to bury them deep and hope they never surface. or maybe some part of use wants it to surface in a small or large way to make some noise and break through into our waking lives. If this was his intentions it is such a beautiful way to portray this constant weaving int the dream world, finding something lost or hidden and not even knowing what you are looking for. I don't know about yo but getting to myself is definitely always a tough sticky situation and usually it is hard work and effort.

When the main character is transformed into Paprika in the dream world and we see she is this amazing persona we cant help but think if this is what the docile living doctor is actually like on the inside. We also later see that she has her limitations and can't actually do everything, then we realise we also must put an effort on our own into our dreams instead of just dreaming them us and hoping they would get fixed on it's own. Overall Paprika is one of my favourite movies of all time, it is fantastical and beautiful and I still don't know the whole story or quite understand fully what it rally is about because there are so many layers to this.
