WEEK 12: DIVERSE POSITION SCIENCE FICTION

This week I read Lilith's Brood by Octavia E Butler. It was a good read, I enjoyed it. I thought it was funny how the human race had to be saved from itself by aliens. It's a little sad in thinking we might end up there someday clawing at each other until a whole different races has to step in and save us. Then proceed to want to breed out the bad things in us or we might try to kill ourselves again. I'm not sure if this reading is some sort of metaphor for interracial breeding? To be honest i'm not sure what the authors intentions for the writing is. The way men and woman compared also show the similarities and the differences so I assume it could be something to do with gender as well. The convention for a woman to breed and be a caregiver is still present in the reading.

By comparing and finding similarities in the male and females traits, we also learn that there should be more equality based just on this comparison of similarities too. Not one is stronger than the other and you need both to create and thus both traits from both will pass on and influence so maybe the point was exactly that, that there should me more in common found and appreciated.
